History of City

Previously, Faisalabad was a Tehsil in the Jhang district. It was called Lyallpur district in 1904. India’s Government of India built canals in the late 19th century to create an artificial irrigation system.
A region of the present-day Faisalabad district was once part of three districts, including Gujranwala, Jhang, and Sahiwal. It was located between the Ravi and Chenab rivers and formed part of Rachna Doab. Lyallpur’s name was after Sir James Lyall, Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, who provided services during the colonization of Lower Chenab valley.
